Three more books! And TV …

I’m delighted to say there are going to be more Shell House Detectives mysteries! The third in the series, The Rockpool Murder, is set to publish in spring 2024, and then there will be three more novels to come through 2024 and 2025. I am truly loving writing this series and am chuffed to bits to continue working with my wonderful editor at Thomas & Mercer, Victoria Haslam.

A few months back I wrote a piece for The Novelry (where I’m a writing coach) about my road to writing The Shell House Detectives – how it was a winding one, the going far from easy, but I learned so much along the way. And there’s all the more to savour now, because of it.

I’m currently working on the fourth mystery, and – spoiler – I might be drinking a glass or two of Cornish wine for inspiration …

Meanwhile, there’s been more reasons to pop corks lately, as the rights to The Shell House Detectives series have been optioned for television by the brilliant production company Playground. Playground are the people behind the beautifully-done Wolf Hall, and the gorgeously cosy reboot of All Creatures Great and Small, amongst other things. There’s always a lot of uncertainties with TV, but if anyone can bring my Shell House gang to the screen, I reckon it’s Playground. And I’ll be cheering them on all the way.

Note: The picture on the last page is from The Rockpool Café in Mousehole. A couple of autumns ago I was on a solo writing retreat and I tucked myself away in this idyllic spot. It was my first time back in Cornwall since signing the first Shell House Detectives book deal, and I celebrated the moment with a crab sandwich, a glass of Prosecco, and a Harbour Lights Mystery writing session. Perfect!
